The Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood (SPBW) met at the Red Brick Station. As an added bonus, Maryland Comptroller, Peter Franchot, was the guest speaker. Okay, its official, I’m a groupie of Mr. Franchot’s Reform on Tap Task Force. Also, Red Brick Station is the home of White Marsh Brewing, the 37th brewery on the Maryland Brewery Challenge. Many say Frederick is the Asheville of Maryland. Just as Asheville, NC is known for its many breweries and fine craft beer, Frederick is making a name for itself in the craft beer world. And with good reason. You are probably familiar with Maryland’s largest brewery, Flying Dog – a terrific Frederick brewery. Also, thousands flock to Carroll Creek Park for the annual Frederick Craft Beer Festival each year. I’ve found another reason to travel to Frederick – Barley and Hops Brewery. Howard County’s newest brewery, Hysteria Brewing Co., made it official, holding their ribbon cutting ceremony this morning. Co-owner Rich Gue held the big scissors, while his partners Geoff Lopes and Jordan Banes cheered him on.
