With all the family and friends all eating and drinking together, I think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. We should have a good crowd. I’ve ordered the turkey, others are bringing pies, desserts, beer, and wine. Yum! And of course, we have our 2nd annual Columbia Pub Crawl next Saturday. So, try to find a moment to relax this hectic weekend and catch up on the craft beer world. Continue reading More Saturday Beer Reads

Frey’s Brewing
MD Brewery Challenge #45
Mt. Airy, MD
Adam Frey is a frustrated man. He has not brewed a beer for quite a while. Most of his energy has been directed towards running his 126-acre farm and haggling with Frederick County officials. Adam has been trying to convert his barn into a tasting room since January of 2017. Now, in November, Frederick County is still erecting bureaucratic roadblocks to building his tasting room. Continue reading Frey’s Brewing

It’s Friday night in Frederick! We’re hanging at #44 with a bunch of locals and a couple of dogs while eating grilled sandwiches. And of course, sampling some liquid refreshments at Olde Mother. Continue reading Olde Mother
Steinhardt Brewing Company
MD Brewery Challenge #43
Frederick, MD
Google Maps says Frederick, but we were actually in Braddock Heights. It’s a small community about 5 miles west of Frederick. We were here to visit Jim Steinhardt, owner, brewer and chief bottle washer of Steinhardt Brewing Company. The brewery is literally in Jim’s garage. Continue reading Steinhardt Brewing Company
Market Street Pub
MD Brewery Challenge #42
Denton, Maryland
The other day we discovered Denton, a charming little town with an Irish Pub right in the middle of it – Market Street Public House. So, where is Denton? You may have driven by it on your way to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. It’s off MD Route 404. BTW, this is Maryland Brewery Challenge number 42. Continue reading Market Street Pub
Saturday Beer Reads
Brrr, it’s cold outside. I think I’m finally ready for winter. I’ve drained and brought in my hoses and shut off the outdoor faucets. Also, I brought in all my frost-sensitive garden plants. Check out this weird triple-headed cabbage from the garden. Continue reading Saturday Beer Reads
HoCo IPA Tasting
A few days ago some friends came over for a tasting to pick the best IPA in Howard County. Everyone brought over a HoCo beer and we blindly tasted five. Continue reading HoCo IPA Tasting

Mad Science Brewing
MD Brewery Challenge #41
Adamstown, MD
I am enjoying toast with a few homemade poppers (roasted banana peppers stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in bacon). The toast has no crunch but is silky smooth, almost creamy, with a subtle malty sweetness and a touch of citrusy lemon. This bready treat actually comes from a growler filled at Mad Science Brewing Company from Thanksgiving Farms. It is the award-winning Helles Belles, a Munich lager, and I’m loving it!
