I’m a huge fan of Garrett Oliver, the brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery. Perhaps my favorite homebrew I have ever made is a clone of his Black Chocolate Stout; I call it Bourbon Barrel Black. And his book, The Brewmaster’s Table, may be my number one beer reference guide. So when I happened across this Epicurious YouTube video with Garrett Oliver, I had to share. End of the World?

While watching the Baltimore Ravens play the Los Angeles Chargers, a Bud Light medieval ad ran during the first half. It’s another Dilly Dilly advertisement, with Count Pamplemousse repeatedly stopping the king from tasting the count’s mead, mentioning “mouth feel”, “layered aromas” and a “tinge of sour cream”. Out of patience, the king ends up sending the count and countess to the “wine cellar” (actually a dungeon cell).

Beer Reads

Will this rain ever stop? This year’s record-breaking rainfall in Maryland makes me feel like I’ve moved to England or the Oregon coast. Even on days when it doesn’t rain, it seems to be overcast and gloomy. Plus, the days are so short right now with the winter solstice on December 21st. I’ve found a few “craft beer reads” to hopefully brighten up your day. Enjoy.

A Mad Elf Night

I’ve been reading Tristan Gooley’s The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs and starting to develop a keen eye for natural clues about our world. For instance, did you know moss grows on the north side of a tree and contrails predict bad weather? So, when I spotted a Tröegs Mad Elf at Frisco Tap House, I knew winter was just around the corner.
