Happy New Year! I am the perpetual optimist and looking forward to 2019. However, there is one day left to cherish in 2018. So, let’s look back on this year and all its highlights.

Celebrate!
I just watched the Baltimore Ravens win the AFC North division. After the great C.J. Mosley ended the Cleveland Browns’ final drive with an interception, we cracked open a Brooklyn Brewery Hand & Seal to celebrate.

I’m a huge fan of Garrett Oliver, the brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery. Perhaps my favorite homebrew I have ever made is a clone of his Black Chocolate Stout; I call it Bourbon Barrel Black. And his book, The Brewmaster’s Table, may be my number one beer reference guide. So when I happened across this Epicurious YouTube video with Garrett Oliver, I had to share. It looks like the soggiest Maryland year will end on a wet note. CNN notes we can expect lots more rain Friday and New Year’s Eve. Always the optimist, I’m hoping 2019 will be a drier year. I suggest seeking shelter from all the wetness and checking out the following craft beer nuggets of wisdom.

Will this rain ever stop? This year’s record-breaking rainfall in Maryland makes me feel like I’ve moved to England or the Oregon coast. Even on days when it doesn’t rain, it seems to be overcast and gloomy. Plus, the days are so short right now with the winter solstice on December 21st. I’ve found a few “craft beer reads” to hopefully brighten up your day. Enjoy.

I’ve been reading Tristan Gooley’s The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs and starting to develop a keen eye for natural clues about our world. For instance, did you know moss grows on the north side of a tree and contrails predict bad weather? So, when I spotted a Tröegs Mad Elf at Frisco Tap House, I knew winter was just around the corner.

When I learned Mrs. Adventures was headed to Frederick, I pounced on the chance to the visit “the brewery capital” of Maryland. I set my sights on the much talked about brewery, Attaboy Beer.
