Mrs. Adventures and I spent a pleasant late lunch on the back patio of Dive Bar & Grille in Savage. It’s the best outdoor dining in Howard County, IMHO.
After Ram’s Head in Savage closed, I missed sitting on their back porch, eating a leisurely meal while overlooking the Little Patuxent River. Dive Bar & Grille has taken over the space with an excellent menu and a terrific beer list. (Sorry, I can’t find the beer list online) I had a rare treat, Burley Oak Sorry Chicky! It’s one of Maryland’s best sour ales and rarely found on tap this far from Berlin, Md.

The crispy Brussels sprouts are a must. I had a taco platter filled to the brim and very tasty. Mrs. Adventures had a hamburger, which needed a little more cooking to reach medium. The server advised ordering medium well if you don’t want it bleeding. Like most of today’s dining experiences, service was slow. For us, the service fit our leisurely lunch vibe perfectly. Our waitress seemed to be the only server for the entire place, plus she was working the bar.
I’m already planning my next visit to Dive Bar. Besides the great outdoor eating space, I love the historic Savage Mill. Although the shops are struggling due to Covid-19, it is still a charming place to window shop. Also, crossing the Bollman Iron Truss Bridge by foot will take you to the Savage Mill Trail. The 1-mile trail follows the beautiful Little Patuxent River with rapids and pools surrounded by majestic trees.
