The Rare Beer Club and The Lost Abbey just provided a religious experience with Righteous Son. This 10.75% Barrel-aged old ale hit it out of the park with flavor and body.
I grabbed this new Rare Beer Club arrival to bring for dinner at a friend’s house. The main dish was cod chowder, which I expected the Righteous Son to overpower. And this old ale was rich with caramel, molasses, cinnamon flavors and a fruity nose. But the cod chowder’s fish flavor and creamy texture stood up well, an unexpected good pairing. I really like how the malty, fruity ale complimented the buttery cod flesh.
I always love a good Old Ale and this is one of the best. Imagine Heavy Seas/Union’s Partner Ship Olde Ale, only barrel-aged and gently spiced, almost chocolatey. If you happen to find this limited release anywhere, which is very unlikely, grab it.
Tomorrow, we’ll be branching out from Howard County and headed to Crooked Crab Brewing in Odenton for our Wednesday night outing. I see a Haze for Days NE IPA in my future.
Cheers!
