Fun fact: The Columbia axe throwing epicenter is located behind the Frisco Tap House on Dobbin Road.
After a Wednesday Bell’s Pint Night at Frisco, we headed back to our cars. On the way, we noticed that Stumpy’s Hatchet House was open. Curious, we stopped in.
The front desk attendant was very welcoming and quickly put us in touch with Alex, the manager of this new addition to Columbia. Alex was full of info. We learned that Stumpy’s of Columbia had just opened 2 weeks ago. In fact, the Grand Opening is still in the planning process.
There are 39 Stumpy’s locations throughout the US. The Columbia place has 14 throwing pits. It also serves beer. Currently, Bond delivers their beer, offering Jailbreak, Monument City, and Bell’s among other craft beer sources. Alex mentioned that Miller Light and a cider were their most popular drinks. Also, Stumpy’s plans to change distributors and expects the beer selections to change as well.
Alex was unphased by my snide remark, “Axe throwing and beer, what could happen?” Apparently, there is a 2-beer limit. Also, all Stumpy’s employees have alcohol awareness training. (I’m curious about that and will have to learn more.)
We signed wavers and tried our luck at axe throwing. We all attempted about 3 or 4 hatchet throws, with only DBear managing to stick one in the target.
It seems like a fun time, with lots of televisions, skeeball, pin ball, other games and plenty of places to sit. Alex said corporate outings are their bread and butter.
Stumpy’s is located around the corner from Frisco Tap House, sharing the address 6695 Dobbin Rd. Stumpy’s is on the Columbia Scuba side of the building.
Next door is Frisco’s brewery, Reckless Ale Works, located at 6655 Dobbin Rd. Their tap room grand opening is scheduled for February 15th and will hold an axe throwing tournament as well. Reckless has 8 throwing pits, so combining Stumpy’s 14 that makes 22 axe pits in one block!
Cheers!
Warren
Sounds like a fun place! Didn’t even know they were open
