Raven

Winners and losers

After the 31-15 Baltimore Ravens win over the Cleveland Browns, we had to celebrate.

After all, the Baltimore Ravens are now 13-2. They will have a bye the first week and home field advantage for the other playoff games. This football team under the phenomenal quarterbacking of Lamar Jackson is fun to watch. They are definitely winners in just about every category.

So, the beer I brought for celebrating was from the Rare Beer Club – O’so Brewing Company, Silver Streak. This Wisconsin brewed ale is a New-England-style Double IPA with rye, fermented with oak and double dry-hopped with Mosaic, El Dorado, Citra and Mackinac hops. Although I’m not a huge fan of rye beer, I figured with all the hops and my love of a good DIPA, it can’t miss.

As you can see, Silver Streak is a beautiful beer, with a creamy orange color, thick and cloudy with an orange-tinged head. Even the nose held tropical aromatics like lime and papaya. But, for me, it was just too much. I asked Terpfan33 how he liked it and the pregnant pause was overwhelming. He finally admitted, he didn’t really like it. And I had to agree. I really, really wanted to like this beer but the spicy flavors where too cloying, leaving a very dry taste in the mouth. This beer had it all, full-bodied and creamy, beautiful long-lasting head, and fruity aromas, everything a home run except for the taste. I realize that’s a like like saying, I really like this car, its beautiful and has a wonderful new car smell, too bad it doesn’t move.

There was a warning from the Rare Beer Club information sheet on Silver Streak that I should have picked up on. Quite a long blurb was devoted to the Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor movie, Silver Streak, including a summary and review. That blurb was about as long as the beer description. Oh well. I think I’ve tried and tried but rye beers, no matter have well made, just aren’t my thing.

Cheers!

Warren
