Fall 2019 Beer Reads

I love fall. Cool weather, brilliant autumn colors, festivals everywhere you look, and of course, pumpkin beers.

I had my first seasonal pumpkin beer this fall, a Breckenridge Brewery Nitro Series: Pumpkin Spice Latte. Fun but it paled in comparison to their Vanilla Porter.

I did have a non-autumnal  ale worth mentioning, Rusty Trail Fool’s Gold – Imperial Peanut Butter Hefeweizen. The peanut butter aroma was initially overwhelming but the more I drank it, the more I liked it. Besides peanut butter, I got hints of banana, a slight sweetness, a clear, crisp well-made beer. The flavor reminded me a little of a Nutter Butter.

For this beautiful fall Saturday, I’ve discovered a few craft beer related articles for your amusement. Enjoy!

Hops & Harvest Festival, Columbia’s own beer and food festival is today, Saturday, October 5th from noon – 5:00 PM. It’s too late to buy tickets online but I’m sure they would let you in for $50 at the door.

MAXIM, YUENGLING AND HERSHEY’S TEAM UP FOR CHOCOLATE PORTER BEER. Besides pumpkin, chocolate beers are, to me, a sign of fall. I’m so glad to see Pennsylvania is getting into the game with these two classic PA companies.

Chatelaine, What’s The Best Container For Beer—Cans Or Bottles? This is an interesting take on an age old question. I’m not sure I agree that cans do not effect the taste. Perhaps a triangle test is in order?

World Economic Forum, This brewery is ditching plastic six-pack rings to save marine life. With all the bad news about plastic these days, a cardboard six-pack holder seems like a good idea.

Matador, Pumpkin beer is the most American of all beers. Time to give it some respect. Yes, I do enjoy a good pumpkin beer. If you agree, Frisco Tap House will host their annual Pumktoberfest this Wednesday, October 9th, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.

Cheers!

Warren
