Devil’s Dad tasting

Devil’s Dad Uncapped

Surprisingly sweet and easy drinking. That was my verdict of my Father’s Day homebrew.

Devil's Dad vs Saison Dupont
Devil’s Dad vs Saison Dupont

Modeled after a Saison Dupont, Devil’s Dad had some similar qualities but you would never confuse the two. Saison Dupont is effervescent and light with mild saison esters. I think of it as the champagne of saisons. On the other hand, we used an amber DME, giving Devil’s Dad a darker color. Also, the flavor was sweeter and maltier with a heavier feel and a bit less carbonation. DD has a toasty nose with some saison esters followed by flavors of raisin and fig. All agreed, it was definitely a more flavorful beer than the Saison Dupont. Overall, it was a success but not a home run. Maybe an RBI single.

Cheers!

    1. Never had a malty Saison before. Pretty much agree with your description. This feel like a blend of two styles for me. Part Oktoberfest Part Saison… this is what I love about homebrew…

      1. Glad you liked it. You don’t need to follow the rules in homebrewing, and that is what makes it so fun!
