Summer has finally arrived! This Saturday morning is beautiful – cool and sunny. So get out and enjoy the day. But…when you find a quiet moment, check out the following craft beer articles.
VinePair, The Pros and Cons of Homebrew Automation Systems. I still make beer the old fashioned way, with a homemade mash tun, a 10-gallon kettle, plastic buckets, and glass carboys. This past Father’s Day, I made a saison with my kids. It was an extract with DME weighing 6.66 lbs. Naturally, we named it Devil’s Dad. My oldest son came up with this great label. On brew day, we tasted a few beers including Pale Duck, an unusual pale ale made with black tea and Aslin Grovestand (very yummy).
As for homebrew systems, a couple of my friends own Grainfathers (one owns many) and they work very well. I can attest to that, having sampled many of their delicious beers.
VinePair, Hop Take: We’re Drinking Less and Paying Less for Beer, Because Millennials (And Gen Z!). I’m seeing fewer people at breweries and pubs, so there may be some truth to this article. However, I did see the Soul Magnets at Peabody Heights Brewery this Friday night and there was quite a crowd. By the way, Goonda’s Barrel Aged POST W/ Kit Kat & Reeses was terrific and worth the drive into Baltimore (as was the always talented Soul Magnets.
The Motley Fool, Is 2019 the Year Craft Beer Sales Turn Negative? More negative news about the craft beer world but I’m still having fun discovering new beers.
Gear Patrol, How to Buy Better Beer, According to a Bottle Shop Owner. I couldn’t agree more with Gear Patrol. I love just browsing in a good bottle shop. Here’s a shout out to my favorite local shop, Allview Liquors. Be sure to tell Justin I said hi.
MSN, Here Are 2019’s Best Beers in America, According to Homebrewers. This is a great list of beers. Two Hearted does it again and I have to agree it’s one of the best. I see another of my favorites, Cigar City Jai Alai, has made an impressive showing as well.
VinePair, The 25 Best Cities to Open a Brewery. It is great to see Frederick, MD on this list of brewery friendly cities.
Cheers!
Warren
Nothing wrong with brewing in a pot and fermenting in a bucket. You can make great beer either way. What I love about the GF is that it better enables me to do other things while brewing. I wouldn’t be able to nearly as much without it.
