Just a few of us stopped by Frisco Tap House for Union Craft Brewing pint night. I ordered a Union Birthday Cake (Cask), a very sweet black lager. I may be the only one in the group who liked it. It was perhaps a bit too sweet but I liked the malt and vanilla flavors.
We learned Reckless Ale Works (Frisco’s brewery) now has a new brewer. I don’t know much about him except his name is Tim and he came from Lagunitas. For now, they plan to just tweek their beer list and perhaps develop a sour program. I’m looking forward to trying his beers.
Outgoing brewer, Ryan Yerdon, brewed Reckless beer for the past 5 years. Years ago we took a tour of the pilot brewing system and the new system as well when it was called Push Brewing. In honor of Ryan’s departure, I drank one of his beers – Reckless Test Batch Pale Ale. I enjoyed its floral nose and mild hop flavor. I question it being a pale ale, though; it’s more of an IPA, IMHO.
Good luck to Ryan. I’ve become a fan of his Illustrious Buddha and Knucklehead.
Cheers!

I do like Black Lagers. Not sure about the sweetness but I also like Porters so I may like this brew. Certainly worth a taste.
