Happy Turkey Day

Columbia, MD Thanksgiving, 2018

It’s that magical day that all American’s spend in thankful contemplation. Our thankfulness is often expressed in consuming huge amounts of food and drink, watching football and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Our turkey comes from TLV Tree Farm, a frequent Howard County source for our eggs, meat, vegetables, Christmas trees and now turkeys.

Today, I am thankful for the 10 friends and family headed over to our house for the annual feast. I’m also thankful for the Sapwood Cellars, the new brewery, just an 11 minute walk from my house. Yesterday, several of us dropped by for an impromptu pint at our newest watering hole. I had their Snip Snap, a sweet and juicy DIPA made with an abundant amount of Citra and Galaxy hops. Unlike most of their beers, the Alcohol By Volume is relatively high at 7.9%. You simply must try it, if you are in the neighborhood. It is wonderful! And owner Mike Tonsmeire says demand is high for this terrific beer and expects it will be gone by the weekend.

I was surprised to see a full house at Sapwood on a Wednesday (their days of normal operation are Thursday through Sunday). They were open especially for Thanksgiving Eve and closed today. It looks like the secret is out for this out-of-the-way brewery.

Also Sapwood related, I’ll be serving the Sapwort Ginger beer for tonight’s dinner. This ginger beer was made from wort provided by Sapwood back in September.

I’m also thankful for our 3rd Annual Columbia Pub Crawl, which will start at 11:00 at the Ale House. Since we end at the Second Chance Saloon, many will park at the 2nd Chance and ferry over to the Ale House; DBear and Jim are coordinating the shuttle, so look for them at the 2nd Chance if you want to do that.

I am so thankful for finally reaching my beer diet goal and now can eat with reckless abandon.

As many of you know, my mother, Lorna, passed away this year. I am so thankful for the support and love this amazing woman gave to me throughout my life. Thanks, mom!

Cheers and happy Thanksgiving!

Warren
