It’s official! Sapwood Cellars, a brewery about a 10-minute walk from my home, is finally open. Local politicians and Kevin Atticks from the Brewers Association of Maryland helped co-owners Mike Tonsmeire and Scott Janish ceremonially cut a ribbon in front of a sparse crowd.
We are so lucky to have such a fine brewery in our neighborhood! You can learn more about Sapwood Cellars from an earlier post: Sapwood Cellars Grand Opening. BTW, their ales are exceptional. My favorite is Rings of Light with the House Saison a close second. I tried the Uncontrollable Laughter, a ribbon cutting release beer. I called it an “in your face” DIPA, hazy and raw. The entire tap list is displayed below.
As I’ve mentioned many times, I’m very excited to have such an exceptional brewery within walking distance of home. The one downside to the walk is crossing Rte. 108. This once sleepy road is now almost always busy and usually backed up during rush hour. Plus, using the crosswalk would increase my walking time by another 5 minutes, so I usually jaywalk near the Red Branch light. Howard County needs to become more pedestrian friendly!
Cheers!
