Beer Reads

For once, I welcome this hot summer Sunday. Why? Some friends and I will be conducting the 15th annual Columbia Tour du Pools where we bicycle to 23 pools (over 3 days) and swim a lap in each one. So, with all the jumping in and out of pools,  hot is good, at least for today.

It is the weekend and that means I have once again found a few articles about the world of beer. This week, most of them are local, about Maryland craft. Please take a few minutes out of the heat to relax, enjoy a cool beverage, and catch up on some beer news.

Sapwood Cellars provides a June Progress report  about  their journey towards opening a brewery in Columbia, MD. BTW, I will be joining a few of my pint nighters at Maryland Homebrew for a class taught by a co-founder of Sapwood Cellars,  Mike Tonsmeire – The Secrets to Successful Sours – Saturday, July 21st, 12-2 pm.

Another local brewery, Guinness (you may have heard of them)plans to open this summer on August 3rd in Arbutus, MD.

Halethorpe, MD brewery, Heavy Seas is in the news, raising $4,000 for flood relief for Ellicott City. If you missed that one, but want to support Ellicott City, try the EC Strong Festival at Howard Count Living Farm Museum on July 28th with 6 Maryland breweries.

Also, mark your calendars; HS is releasing a Raspberry Sour at 3:00 pm on July 20th at their Halethorpe location. Hysteria will host a Hog and Oyster event at their brewery, 6570 Berger Rd., Columbia, MD on Saturday, August 4th from 4-7 pm.

In Harford County, Wesley Case of the Baltimore Sun reports on 4 breweries that have recently popped up in this nearby county.

Amazon now can deliver beer and wine in Washington State in 2 hours. Is this a glimpse of the future?

Cheers!
