Wednesday night brought us back to Frisco Tap House. It was Terrapin Pint Night. I am a big fan of Terrapin Beer Co.’s beers, especially Moo-Hoo, their Yoo-Hoo flavored milk stout.
Terrapin is an Atlanta, Georgia based microbrewery. I’ve found their stouts and porters exceptional, beers like: Moo-Hoo; Lucille, The Walking Dead; Cinnamon Roll’d Wake-N-Bake; Cinnamon Roll’d Gingerbread; Dos Cocoas Chocolate Porter; Liquid Bliss; and Full of Balarny.
I’m still on my “summer ales” kick, so I tried Terrapin’s Watermelon Gose. I was impressed. It actually smelled like watermelon and tasted like salty watermelon and just a bit tart. This fun, tasty gose is a vast improvement over my past disappointing watermelon beer experience – 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon which tasted like a gnarly version of Jolly Rancher watermelon candy.
Sticking with low ABVs (hey, I rode my bicycle) and my summer beer theme, I ordered another Terrapin, T-Time. This Berliner Weisse hit the style in many ways – tart, wheaty and refreshing. It was a bit too thin-bodied for me, I’d say nearly flat. I’m thinking it needed more carbonation to meet the Berliner Weisse criteria.
I stayed away from Lucille, The Walking Dead. This 9.4% Imperial Stout is an extremely limited-release collaborative beer from Skybound and Terrapin. It was a hit with my friends at the table with its blackstrap molasses and vanilla tastes. I don’t watch the Walking Dead but understand Lucille is a bat used to kill zombies. Here’s the description:
“‘Lucille,’ the weapon of choice inside of this bottle, is an imperial stout brewed with blackstrap molasses and vanilla. Swinging for the fences, we aged this beer on hickory, maple and white ash, the three woods that are used to produce baseball bats. Big and menacing, its flavors hit hard.”
Our good friend, Steven Wilson, of Bond Distributing introduced us to the Terrapin Rep, Melissa. Most of us gushed about the Watermelon gose. Full disclosure: Melissa paid for our Terrapin beers. Afterward, Steven and Melissa raffled away some Terrapin goodies. Sadly, none at the table held the winning numbers.
The dessert for this fun evening was my 4-mile bicycle ride home. It was warm and quiet along the paths of Columbia. As a final treat, I witnessed a strawberry moon, the full moon Native Americans used as an indicator to pick strawberries.
Cheers!
