Freeport, ME
Based on a conversation at the Wine Bin in Ellicott City, MD, I was on a quest for Dinner (a beer from the Maine Beer Company). After hours of driving and some painful shopping in the outlets and L.L. Bean (shopping is my kryptonite), we had finally arrived at this faraway place.
They offered 8 beers on tap. Sadly, none of them were Dinner. Apparently, they only brew Dinner 5 times a year and quickly sell out in the mornings. The bartender mentioned that their expansion (which we noticed when walking in) might make availability more likely in the future.
I could have ordered a flight of 8, but elected to try 4 samples new to me. All these well-made beers had a similar Maine Beer taste of bitter pine. My favorite was Mo. I had Woods and Water, Post Ride Snack, Peeper Ale and Mo.
We sat down outside, near an outdoor pizza oven, under a tent. We shared a picnic table with Cathy, a gregarious, tattooed Mainer from Portland. She loved beer and Acadia, giving us a few tips about what to do in the National Park. Our time with Cathy once again reinforced our impression of the friendly Maine people.
Cheers!

Sad, no Dinner to be had. Not even in Maine.
