Cousin Gregg was eager to share the local breweries in Portland, ME with us. He is a lucky guy who starts his Friday happy hours at Allagash Brewing, so we did the same.
The family parked our enormous, rental car (a Suburban) in the last parking spot at Allagash. Entering Allagash, we each got a ticket after showing our ID. We traded in the ticket for a flight of our choice. No money was exchanged but we were limited to one flight a piece. You gotta love free beer!
We sat outside and tasted each other’s beers. Sorry, I didn’t take any notes — Hey, I’m on vacation.
Just across the street are several other breweries. We tried Foundation and Austin Street around back. It was amazing to find all these breweries just a few feet apart.
We had to sneak past Big Foot on the way to our final destination, Bissell Brothers. Their tasting room has moved from near Allagash to a short drive away, greatly expanding their space. Most of their beers have are intensely hopped, some using a double dry-hopped process.
Our first night in Portland was a great time. Thanks for sharing, Gregg!!
Really nice Warren…….and a great time was had by all.
