The Last Waltz at Merriweather

Manor Hill at Merriweather

Movie Night

So, for Wednesday night, a few from the pint night crew watched a free movie at Merriweather Post Pavilion; the movie was The Last Waltz

Local brewery and eatery, Manor Hill Brewery and Manor Hill Tavern hosted the event. We chatted with two owners of Manor Hill, Randy Marriner, and daughter Rachael, who were at their food tent. Randy noted that construction of their new Clarksville restaurant, Food Plenty, has begun; a fall opening is expected. Among the many AB Inbev products being sold that night at Merriweather, Manor Hill had a craft beer toehold, providing their IPA and Farm Fuzz. The IPA is juicy, light and fresh tasting. The Farm Fuzz had pleasant, lightly flavored Saison esters with a rather thin body, perhaps due to the funky over-carbonated tap.

It is interesting how we eventually got to Merriweather. Last Saturday, we attempted a last-minute visit to the Manor Hill Farm Festival. We actually drove to the farm, only to find you needed to buy tickets online. Laura tried purchasing tickets while we sat in the parking lot, but the event was sold out.

It was a beautiful day, so we headed over to Leelynn’s for some outside dining.  Despite the continuous car noise from MD Route 108, Leelynn’s outdoor seating is quite charming. We liked the artistic hummus platter and their craft beer selection. I tried a Baltimore beer, Oliver’s Riding Easy. It’s not your average blonde ale but more of a bready English ale with plenty of juicy hops. Also, New Belgium’s Citradelic is always a yummy tangerine and hops beverage.

Dbear was smarter than us and discovered the Manor Hill Farm Festival was sold out without actually driving there to find out. While online, he discovered Merriweather’s free concert sponsored by Manor Hill. He sent out a GroupMe message and a few of us spent a very pleasant evening on the lawn on blankets thanks to Dbear!

One of the perks of blogging about beer is people give you free beer. On the way out of Merriweather, Dbear gave me one of his latest creations – Apricot Wedding Wheat. His daughter will be getting hitched in a couple of weeks, so he made a celebratory beer and gave me one to try. I’ll try it in a few weeks when I return from vacation and let you know what I think. Did I mention, my family is headed to Maine? We plan to visit Portland and Bar Harbor. I’ll try to keep you posted.

I’ve been busy getting ready for the Maine trip, cleaning up my yard and gardens. Also, I picked up a few gifts for our Maine relatives. Old Ellicott City is a great place for some Maryland products. I picked up some old bay crab chocolates from Sweet Cascades and a 6-pack of Loose Cannon from the Wine Bin. While at the Wine Bin, I mentioned my trip to Maine. He said the Maine Brewing Co.’s Dinner (a beer) is a must.

Cheers!

Warren

  1. Have fun! The wedding wheat might be a regular in my brew cycle, next time whirlpool and dry hop for me with more calypso hops.
