Bell’s came to Frisco Tap House for pint night. Despite a crazy time last weekend in Philly (see day 1, day 2, day 3, and Philly Beer Week) we had a good crowd. After a long absence, Brooke was back serving us, now with red hair. Also, our old friend, Steven of Bond Distributing, was in the house. Bond distributes Bell’s to Frisco.
Despite my passion for Two Hearted, I ordered a Bell’s Kal-Haven Rye Ale w/ Brett. I’m not usually a fan of ryes but the funky sour of Brett and the spicy rye worked well together. The Bell rep, Chris, explained the elaborate barrel aging process of this interesting beer. I’m glad I tried it.
For me, the best beer of the night was the Anderson Valley’s Nitro Cerveza Crema. It’s maybe the creamiest ale I’ve ever tasted. Z had one of these at Brü in Philadelphia. Of course, Old Chub, Two Hearted, and Nimble Giant were on tap but I’m always trying something different.
Keith stopped by to quiz us about Philly. He asked us what was the best beer of the weekend. I voted for Tired Hands’ milkshake IPA, Eviscerated Pathway of Beauty. Dbear and Z thought that Map 40 by Allagash might challenge it. Keith also talked about the history and success of Maryland’s largest brewery, Flying Dog. Did you know they were the first to sell mixed 12-packs? Now they even sell beers which are a blend of some of their favorite beers.
I learned that beer drinking slows in warm weather but picks up in the winter. Brooke blamed the summer slow business on all the vacations Columbians take. I guess I won’t mention my upcoming 2 weeks in Maine.
I mentioned to Steven that he should attend the next Reform on Tap meeting at Monument City (Bond distributes for them, as well) on June 22nd from 3-5 PM. I heard an interesting distributor perspective on the MD bill (now law) MD1283.
Cheers!
Warren
And now Two Hearted topples Pliny the Elder!
