Wow, what a weekend!
Everyone in Maryland was outside on Sunday. The temperature hit 70° F — a rare treat in February. Plus, it was Presidents Day weekend.
A friend visited Frisco Taphouse in Crofton, then Milkhouse Brewery, then finally Red Shedman. He said the lines were massive.
I considered visiting Max’s Taphouse for their annual Belgian Festival but figured the lines would be insane. I plan to head to their Sour and Wild Ale Festival on Monday. Instead, I visited some friends who were brewing a couple of beers outside. They were making a coffee stout and a red ale. Another friend brewed a 366 Extra Brett Pale Ale using local Howard County Dark Cloud 2-row malt. He also put in a hop trellis in his yard.
Finally, the Baltimore Sun writes about legal issues with the proposed Guinness plant in Baltimore County. The legislation is proposed to increase the amount of beer that the Guinness brewery could serve. Opponents say it’s not fair to other businesses. They want to preserve the “three-tier system” of brewers, distributors, and retailers. Supporters talk about jobs and tourism. Seems unfair to make an exception just for Guinness, but I would like to see a Guinness plant in the area. What do you think?
Cheers!
Warren
Hoping one of our brewing friends wins tomorrow. Fingers and toes crossed
All fingers and toes will be needed. The winners have been selected out of 81 entries!
I have always tasted the slight tartness, never realized it might be brett/lacto funk.
BTW there are dozens of Maryland license types for brewing, almost every brewery gets some change to the current law to allow something. Right now there is a brewery in Frederick (Attaboy Brewing) working to allow kids under 21 into the taproom.
maybe not dozens, many variants. throw in fed, state and county or municipal rules it is amazing anyplace opens.
Barnwerks supposedly not happening now, many hurdles to opening a brewery let alone having success once open.
That is disappointing about Barnwerks, their beer is delicious.
Interesting. I wonder how many laws are for just one brewery?
