After missing a few weeks at Frisco Tap House, it’s nice to be back. Having Jailbreak as the brewery makes it extra special. Two weeks ago, I was in Florida. Last week, we enjoyed the release of a delicious Oud Bruin aged in Syrah barrels at Jailbreak. Last week, we saw many of our friends at Jailbreak and now they are with us again at Frisco. They include Liz and Gina of Jailbreak as well as beer rock star, Steven, from Bond Distributing. We also met the rep, Jailbreak Jennifer. She is hosting a tasting at Allview Liquors on Friday from 3-6:30, which a few of us might attend.
We tried some interesting beers:
- Van Dammit by Jailbreak Brewing Company – This one is aged in bourbon barrels. Also, Frisco has held this one for a year, waiting for a special occasion – today! Initial bourbon aroma overpowers the beer. Letting it breathe and warm up makes a huge difference. The blending of bourbon and stone fruit flavors makes this a really complex, sweet beer.
- Dusk Till Dawn by Jailbreak Brewing Company – I had a taste of this bourbon barrel aged coffee stout. It had a strong coffee flavor with a subdued bourbon taste. Yummy!
- Interdependence IPA by Brookeville Beer Farm – Brookeville Beer Farm Brewery is one of 57 breweries on my Maryland brewery challenge. Since I have not been to Brookeville, I thought I’d sample their IPA. It smelled delicious, with a juicy, grapefruity nose. The taste was a harsh, bitter flavor, probably something my hophead friends would enjoy.
- Racer X® by Bear Republic Brewing Co. – Here’s the question. Is it pronounced Racer
“Ex” or Racer ten? The pint night gang had to argue this one. Drawn by my admiration of Racer 5 IPA, I thought I’d sample Bear Republic’s double IPA. Our terrific Frisco server, Brooke, brought a small sample to try. It had the smell and front taste of Racer 5, but I found the back too astringent for me.
It’s always great to hang with the pint night crew. I love my Wednesday nights out!
Cheers!
