Tempted by a Syrah Barrel Aged O.D.B., I stopped by Jailbreak Brewing Company.
Sitting at the bar with some friends, I sampled this sour – Flanders Oud Bruin. I found it subtly tart with a nice sweetness and a wine aroma. Here’s how Jailbreak describes it:
“For this beauty, we took our O.D.B. (Oud Bruin) and married it up for 5 months with four Syrah barrels from one of the most renowned wineries in the U.S., thus creating a lightly sour Flemish Style Brown Ale with bright acidity, underlying red and black fruits, and just enough malt to pull it all together.”
In the name of science, I sampled a few beers new to me and resisted having my favorite Jailbreak beer — Van Dammit. They were:
- (Cask) Big Punisher w/ Mint and Cocoa Nibs — wow, only for mint lovers!
- The Carrot Conspiracy — Very sweet brown ale. Sweet carrot nose. Surprisingly good.
We played some shuffleboard. Jailbreak has a very nice table. My partner was a ringer, so we easily handled our competition, despite my ineptness.
Jailbreak is included in the 57 MD Brewery Challenge. This is my second time visiting them this year.
Cheers!

Jailbreak may be Howard County’s best brewery.
Jailbreak is a fun brewery to visit. I agree with Pierce, we should sample all the HoCo breweries!
