March Opening?
I stopped by Hysteria Brewing Company to check on their progress.
I heard a rumor that Hysteria was offering a tasting. Going through the open door, I walked through a maze of construction to the back where I heard people talking. Three taps were on the wall. I was greeted warmly by Ty, Hysteria’s marketing guy.
During my stay, Ty poured samples of:
- an IPA — well-balanced,
- a sour — wonderfully puckery with a clean finish. No taste of alcohol at 12% (dangerous),
- a milk stout — sweet with a dry finish,
- a coffee milk stout — local coffee added to the milk stout. Very strong coffee flavor.
- & a sour with oak spirals — Oak spirals added to the sour giving a nice subdued flavor.
All the Hysteria beers I tasted are big, delicious beers with distinct flavors. The sour ale was spectacular!
Hysteria is on Berger Road right next to their other business venture, Vaper’s Knoll, an e-cigarette shop. The brewery is still under construction. They plan to open their taproom in late March. All permits are finalized, they are just waiting for construction.
I met the creator of these fine beers, Jordan. He learned his trade interning at a Carolina brewery while in college. Along with his brewing duties, he is part owner along with Rich Gue, and Geoff Lopes, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
Gina and Liz from Jailbreak were enjoying the tasting as well. They suggested attending Jailbreak’s release of an Oud Bruin aged in wine barrels tomorrow (February 1st). I certainly plan to go. I also met Greg Stryker, another brewery blogger and UMBC alum. You can follow his blog on Facebook – Brewery Brothers.
Cheers!
