Rickrolling the Beer World
English pop singer, Rick Astley, is in the news again. The 50-year-old singer is best known for his 1987 number-one hit, Never Gonna Give You Up. That song led to the hilarious internet meme, rickrolling, involving a disguised hyperlink to the hit’s video. Now, he is working with the Mikkeller brewery in Copenhagen to create a “fruity pilsner lager”.
Mikkeller
At first, adding a fruity pilsner lager among Mikkeller’s big, expensive, and unusual beers seems unimaginable. I met gypsy brewer, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, several years ago at The Perfect Pour. When asked, how do you convince breweries to let you brew at their facilities, he simply replied, “I give them money”. While there, I bought Beer Geek Breakfast, which he signed. It’s an amazing Oatmeal Stout. Surprisingly, Mikkeller does make a highly rated pilsner called Draft Bear. Given that information, Astley’s fruity pilsner lager seems not so far-fetched.
Pilsner Beer Name?
Apparently, Astley loves to have a beer with his friends and hopes to sell his own brand soon. His collaboration with Mikkeller is nearly complete. All he needs now is a name for his beer. After careful research, I’ve come up with a suggestion.
Cheers,
Warren
Making me nostalgic for the 80’s!
Nostalgic for the music, perhaps, but the beer is much better today. 🙂
He should embrace it and call it rickrolling beer
Perhaps. I like never gonna brew you down. Here are some suggestions from the beer blog, Porch Drinking. https://www.porchdrinking.com/articles/2017/01/04/rick-astley-launching-his-own-beer/
