21st Anniversary
Ahoy mateys! If ye be searchin’ fer a tour about pirates and beers, this be the place. Shiver me timbers, hardy har, har. Aaarrr!
Sorry, after a visit to the Heavy Seas Brewery, I had to get that out of my system.
The Tour
We have just spent an interesting 45 minutes with Captain Flint, our Heavy Seas tour guide to “Legends of Beer and Piracy Tour”. While dressed in pirate regalia, Captain Flint leads a mesmerizing walk through Heavy Seas Brewery. He describes and shows how their beer is made, and spins some fascinating tales about pirate lore.
We learned a lot about the history of Heavy Seas. For instance, Heavy Seas’ parent company and previous name is Clipper City. Founder, Hugh Sisson, began selling beer at his family restaurant, Sisson’s years ago. He was the first to sell craft beer in Maryland, actually helping to change the law to do so. Also, Heavy Seas is a predominant American commercial cask brewer. I highly recommend taking this tour in celebration of Heavy Seas’ 21st birthday.
Beer(s)
Also, try their 21st Anniversary Ale. It is a Rye Imperial ESB, aged in Sagamore Sprit Rye Whiskey barrels. It tastes of rye whiskey and alcohol. Not surprising, it is a 10.5% beer.
Cheers!
